Functions of a Women Empowerment Cell

1. Awareness and Sensitization

• Organize workshops, seminars, and talks on women’s rights, gender equality, and related issues.
• Conduct awareness drives on laws protecting women (e.g., POSH Act, Domestic Violence Act).
• Promote positive body image, self-esteem, and mental health awareness.

2. Skill Development & Capacity Building

• Offer training in entrepreneurship, leadership, self-defense, financial literacy, etc.
• Encourage participation in technical, professional, and vocational training.
• Facilitate career counseling and mentorship programs.

3. Safety and Grievance Redressal

• Work in coordination with Internal Complaints Committees (ICC) for handling sexual harassment complaints.
• Promote a zero-tolerance policy against gender-based violence or harassment.
• Conduct safety audits and suggest improvements in infrastructure.

4. Networking and Collaboration

• Collaborate with NGOs, legal experts, police departments, and health professionals.
• Network with other Women Cells to share resources and organize joint events.

5. Policy Advocacy

• Help frame and review institutional policies to ensure they are gender-sensitive.
• Provide recommendations to management on promoting inclusive practices.

6. Celebration of Important Days

• Observe International Women’s Day, National Girl Child Day, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, etc.
• Use these occasions to celebrate women’s achievements and discuss ongoing challenges.

7. Counseling and Support

• Provide emotional and psychological support to female students and staff.
• Establish peer support groups or connect with professionals for guidance.
